Slideshow: Cultures and Community Merge At the New Roots Community Farm

By Carissa Casares

City Heights isn’t a particularly scenic neighborhood — except for the intersection of 54th Street and Chollas Avenue.
A sea of green suddenly shines against the dreary backdrop of tan buildings. Sunflowers and cornhusks stand tall and rows of green shoot from the soil. The parcel of land is the New Roots Community Farm, a unique venture in merging sustainable food and diverse cultures.
The farm was inaugurated in September 2009 and has since become a place where people from different cultures work together to feed their families.
