SLIDESHOW: Tourists contribute to San Diego’s third largest industry

As San Diego’s third largest industry, tourism is responsible for employing nearly 160,000 people — leaving a substantial impact on our community. When hotel employees spend money on food and services, that money directly benefits other sectors in San Diego. And with the third highest hotel occupancy rate in the nation last year, “America’s Finest City” has the ability to pass on the earnings to build and maintain parks, roads, libraries and public safety — a number that makes up 10 percent of our city’s operating budget.
